Theydon Bois Open Gardens Day
OPEN GARDENS DAY - 2016 onwards - No more Open Days Planned.
Unfortunately no more Open Gardens Days are planned for Theydon Bois at present. It is hoped that Open Gardens Day will return at sometime in the future. When it does this page will be updated with the opening information. Dated: 7th May 2018.
Unfortunately, Theydon Youth had to make the decision to cancel this year’s Open Gardens’ Day. The number of Gardens wishing to open this year was not enough for us to host the event.
In the last five years Open Gardens’ Day has raised almost £20,000 for Theydon Youth and we would like to thank everyone involved for their time and efforts both this year and or in previous years. We are hopeful that we may be able to drum up support to enable us to open Theydon Gardens again in the future. Info on earlier Open Gardens Days with photos is below.
Information about the Theydon Bois Open Gardens Day
OPEN GARDENS’ DAY – SUNDAY 22nd JUNE 2014 - 34th Year
On Sunday June the 22nd , Theydon Youth, led by Thea Buisson and Karen Collins, organised and ran the annual Theydon Bois Open Gardens’ Day. The event has now been running for 34 years and is visited by people far and wide. It has become an annual tradition where visitors, from near and far, have the chance to look around some of the beautiful private gardens within our Village. The number of gardens was slightly down on previous years, but the number of visitors was up and the selection of gardens to view was still more than enough to fill the visitors’ day. The gardens included a wonderful selection from all over the village, from the stunning formal gardens of Larkmead and Ray Cooney to the beautiful bungalows in Forest Drive.

We had two new gardens this year in Coppice Row and Hornbeam Close, which were very popular. The weather was kind & the sun shone all day! Special thanks goes to not only the gardeners, without whom the event simply could not take place, but also to the Village Association, for letting us use the hall, the Rural Preservation Society, for providing a wonderful display in the hall and not forgetting all our helpers throughout the day.
Open Gardens’ Day is the main fundraiser for Theydon Youth and this year we made in excess of £2,700. The money will go towards buying new equipment and subsidising trips for members of the Youth Club.
If you would like to show your garden next year please contact Karen Collins (Tel.01992 812295/E-mail firstname.lastname@example.org ). If you would like more information or have a spare hour or so to help on the day then please contact Thea Buisson (Tel 01992 815982/E-mail Theydonyouth@hotmail.com).

Epping Forest MP Eleanor Laing has again praised the efforts of Theydon Bois villagers who opened their gardens to the public on our Annual Open Gardens Day when many gardens in Theydon Bois were open for visitors to admire. Mrs Laing, who visited many of the gardens with her son, Matthew, said: "The open gardens day is now a firm fixture in the village's social calendar with people coming from some distance to view the gardens.
"This event has been held for over 30 years now and I would like to congratulate the organisers (Theydon Youth with the continued support of the Village Association) and in particular the green-fingered gardeners who make this fabulous event possible."
Open Gardens Day - Relax & Enjoy
We trust we can again arrange a very pleasant day in 2015 when you visit.
