1st December 2019: Theydon Christmas Tree Lighting and Christmas Market 2019:
Theydon's Christmas Festivities got off to a great start again this year with the Lighting of the Village Christmas Tree by representatives from the 2019 winners of the Villager of the Year Award - The Playground at Theydon Committee. They were ably assisted by Parish Council Chairman Peter Gooch and this year the tree lit up in all its glory without any hitch. After the tree lighting ceremony Villagers then moved on to Forest Drive for this years Christmas Market where they were able to visit Santa's Grotto in Belgique, listen to the Primary School Carol Singers, enjoy festive music from Fairlop Brass Band or just do some Christmas Present Shopping.
Many people said how much they enjoyed the evening. The mulled wine and mince pies were supplied by the Parish Council and the other refreshments were provided by many of our shops that participated.
An amazing amount of work always goes into making this event happen and I'm sure we would all want to thank our Parish Council together with all the Volunteers who made the 9th Year of this event so successful.
The market evening and yesterdays charity collection around the Village Centre raised a total of £1088.88
for this years charity Epping Forest Voluntary Action. This is a record amount for a collection made at this event. Thank you to everyone who contributed.

9th September 2019: Parish Council Office Staff Roles: As some of you may have already have noticed there are some new ladies staffing in the Parish Office and there are now four office staff each with different roles to deal with the increased workload on the Parish Council.
The New Parish Clerk is Jennifer Endean and she will have the overall role of managing the Parish Office and Parish Council business. Jennifer or Jen as she is affectionately known spent her early years in Woodford Green attending Churchfields Junior School and later Woodbridge High School, before earning her Batchelor of Arts Degree in Media Studies from the University of East London. It was at University where Jennifer met her husband of ten years, Greg. After graduating, Jennifer pursued a career in the City as an Events manager for a number of large asset management and insurance firms, namely AIG, Benfield and MFS. After an 8 year stint living in North Weald, Jennifer found her family home in Theydon Bois with Greg and their 2 children.
Jennifer will be ably assisted by New Parish Admin Assistant - Julia Gale. Julia lived all of her life in Chigwell until very recently, when her family moved to Theydon Bois. She has a background in finance, joining a major bank straight from school, carrying out a variety of interesting roles, also meeting her husband, Andrew there. She left the bank after the birth of her second son. The children are now grown up, the eldest son is an engineer and the youngest son has just graduated from university. Julia has a great passion for reading and books, so when her youngest son started school she was accepted for the role of Deputy Library Supervisor at Chigwell Library; a position she held for the last eighteen years, really enjoying meeting all the interesting people that came through the doors over that time. Now, she tells Village News that she is very much looking forward to a new challenge, serving the people of Theydon Bois in her new job with the parish council.
The previous Parish Clerk Caroline Carroll is still with us and is now the Responsible Finance Officer. Caroline will be responsible for all the Parish Councils finances and the receipt and payment of monies.
Former Assistant Parish Clerk Sarah Shirley has now taken on the role of Planning Clerk. Sarah has been performing this role for some time in effect, but with the amount of work the New Local Plan has generated, plus the increasing need for detailed responses to Planning Applications it was thought that it would be better to now have this as a specific role.
The Parish Clerk or Admin. Assistant will normally available
weekday mornings at the Village Hall. The Parish Office will officially be open Monday to Friday from 10.00 a.m. until 12.00 M/D. At other times, or if the clerk is out of the office,
messages can be left on the answer phone, Tel: 01992 813442. Faxes can
also be sent to the same number. Email: firstname.lastname@example.org
For planning matters please ask for Sarah, Planning Clerk or Cllr. Peter Gooch. For finance related matters please ask for Caroline, Responsible Finance Officer.
The New Parish Council Website is not yet on-line so the Council Staff and Councillors Contact Details have been updated on the now archived Parish Council Pages here.
30th August 2019: Theydon Bois Village News September 2019 Issue: The September issue of Village News is back from the printers and is now being delivered around the village by our volunteers. The online version is avaialble here together with back issues.
There is a correction to the article on page 41 as Alan Bishop has had to delay his charity walks due to a pending hospital operation. The fundraising page for donations has been closed at present to prevent anyone sponsoring the walk at this time using the link in the magazine. Alan is now thinking that he will do the walk in the Spring of 2020. The online version of Village News has been amended and does not now have the link in the article.
12th June 2019: Following health problems of the current Website Editor their have been no proper updates to the News or Diary pages of the Village Website for the last 6 months. We are now hoping that we will be able to make a few more regular updates. We are also in the process of trying to find a new volunteer Website Editor (See below). We have updated the Newsletter List with the latest issues of Theydon Bois Village News that has information on recent past and coming events: Newsletters List Here for earlier items see the News Archive above or The Month in Theydon also above.
Theydon Bois Village Website Seeks New Volunteer Editor
In the early part of last year by Theydon Bois Parish Council decided to separate the Parish Council’s information section from the Theydon Village Website and tender for a commercially produced website. This will be run entirely under their own editorship. Jim Watts, the current volunteer Village Website editor and designer was informed of this in May 2018 and following some discussions with the Parish Council and having now edited the Village Website for 18 years, together with some recent health issues, decided the end of 2018 would be a good time for him to stand down. This would allow someone else to take the Village Website forward perhaps with a new approach.
Theydon Newsdesk is therefore seeking a volunteer for the post of Village Website Editor. This is an unpaid position, but all expenses are met from the Theydon Newsdesk budget that is funded by our sponsors.
This post would suit someone who loves our village and is interested in supporting it and promoting our community activities. They would probably have already retired, ideally have an interest in IT and are computer literate, or they maybe working, but have a little spare time and want to develop their IT skills further.
The new editor will join the Theydon Newsdesk Committee that oversees both the Village Website and Theydon Bois Village News. The committee normally meets just once each quarter of the year in the month prior to the publication of the village magazine.
Initially Jim Watts was due to stand down as editor of the site at the end of 2018, but is still willing to carry out essential maintenance and limited updates until a new editor can be appointed. He can give advice and some training to the new editor if needed.
The site now has hundreds of pages of information on our village and its activities, but only around ten require regularly updating. It was developed and runs in Adobe Dreamweaver software, but once established in the post the new editor will have total freedom to bring their own ideas and changes in discussion with the Theydon Newsdesk Committee.
So if the Village Website is to continue and move forward we need your help now. For more advice or to apply
